Welcome to STARFLEET Intelligence (SFIN)!

“STARFLEET Intelligence (SFIN) is An Auxiliary Service of STARFLEET, the International Star Trek Fan Association, Inc. (SFI), dedicated to providing a specifically focused research service for members and leaders of SFI. Additionally, SFIN provides a venue for those members expressing an interest in the intelligence, reconnaissance and covert operations within Star Trek fandom.”

SFIN Vison and Plan

STARFLEET Intelligence will focus on Four main areas
1 – Non-SFI Events
2 – External Fan Organizations Points Of Contact
3 – SFI Leadership Support
4 – Star Trek Species

SFIN is entirely externally focused and will never spy on or ‘research’ members of SFI. The ‘Intelligence’ aspect provides fun flavor while offering a real-world service to the Fleet. We will try to use ‘Intel’ terminologies for our organization and internal fun, but that is again meant to flavor and make a bit more entertaining a realistic, viable resource to the Fleet.

STARFLEET Intelligence Methods:
-Open Source and Signals Intelligence Gathering: Web and literary research, also known as the ‘Google-Fu’ type.
–If you can do a websearch – you can be an SFIN Analyst!
-Humanoid Intelligence Gathering: Anything an “agent’ might learn while directly interacting with other people, such as at events or conventions.
–If you go to any events and learn something interesting – if you report that to us, you just became an SFIN Agent!
–If you are going to an event, and folks would like information from specific people that will be there – you can be an SFIN Agent!
-Either can be used to support each of the focus areas, though Open Source is clearly going to be the larger/day-to-day bulk of our work

Focus Areas:

SFIN – Event Intelligence:
This covers Non-SFI Events:
-Conventions
-Other Fandom Events
-Local Interest
Can deeper dive from what is going on to Points of Contact as needed
The goal is to answer the question, “What is going on…that I might be interested in?”

SFIN – Organization Intelligence:
This involves other organizations, specifically Fan orgs.
This provides general information and Points of Contact (POCs), including:
-Event POCs
-Resource POCs
The goal is to answer the question, “I need to know who….” within other Fan organizations.
This section will likely work with SF Diplomatic Corps fairly closely.

SFIN – Leadership Support:
A sort of catch all, that would use the talents of the SFIN agents (again, usually the Open Source and Signals Intelligence Gathering) to support other efforts of SFI leaders.
-Charity Research
-Local ordinance that might apply to an event in planning
-Historical data
-Who knows?
The goal is to help answer the questions that SFI leaders just came up with.

SFIN – Species Intelligence:
This area focuses on the “Four C’s” for each Trek species that get can.
-Culture
-Cuisine
-Calendar
-Costuming
The goal is to answer the question, “Where can I find more about the…”
This is NOT to re-create Memory Alpha or any other website, but rather to continually curate and update resource lists that might help our members.
